The Family Self-Sufficiency
Program
Established in 1993, the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program provides opportunities to Pathways residents and Housing Choice Voucher clients to become financially independent.
The FSS program is an important aspect of the Austin Housing Authority’s mission of empowering families to pursue their full potential. The program helps families grow their income through work and education, while allowing them to build savings that they can use for goals like buying a home, starting a business, or continuing school.
How the FSS Program Works
Austin Housing Authority’s team of FSS coordinators will work with you to create a five-year plan, documenting your personal and professional goals. As your rent increases, due to earning higher wages, a portion of the monthly rent is matched by the FSS program and deposited into an escrow account, which you will receive upon graduation.
When enrolled in the FSS program, you can access resources such as:
- Career placement & job training
- Child care assistance
- Computer training
- Financial training
- GED classes
- Homeownership program assistance
- Scholarships
- Transportation assistance
- iMOMS
