Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, also known as Section 8, helps people with lower incomes pay for a place to live by covering part of their rent.

HOW IT WORKS

With a Housing Choice Voucher, you can choose where you live. The voucher acts like a coupon for rent at an apartment, house, or townhome with a private landlord.

Waitlist Applications Closed

When the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is open, you can submit an application online to be considered for placement on the waitlist. Applicants selected through the lottery process will be contacted to complete eligibility verification.

To qualify, your household’s annual gross income must be within a certain limit.

With a voucher, you can choose a housing unit that is owned or operated by a landlord who will accept the voucher.

Vouchers from Austin Housing Authority can be used in the following cities and suburbs: Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Leander, Del Valle, and Manor.
