Austin Housing Authority joined Austin City Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison’s District 1 team and longtime partner Communities In Schools of Central Texas for a Back-to-School celebration supporting young residents as they headed into a new school year.
More than 50 residents gathered at Pathways at Booker T. Washington for an afternoon of food, games, music, raffle prizes, and activities designed to bring families together and help students start the year feeling supported.
Starting the School Year with Confidence
For several young residents, the celebration also included a fresh haircut or hairstyle ahead of the first day of school.
La Darrian Torry, Cluren Williams, Yhameilah Muhyee, Seidah Williams, and Dajaunique Fantroy volunteered their time and talents to provide free haircuts and styles for students. The services were coordinated in partnership with Council Member Harper-Madison’s office.
Their participation added a meaningful personal touch to the event, helping students head back to the classroom looking — and feeling — their best.
Collaboration That Supports Young Residents
The celebration was another example of what is possible when community partners come together around Austin’s young people.
