For 12 families in East Austin, the dream of homeownership is now a reality. In partnership with Austin Habitat for Humanity, the Austin Housing Authority proudly celebrated the dedication of 12 newly constructed affordable homes at Prospect Heights — a milestone moment rooted in community, opportunity, and hope.
Located on the historic Rosewood Courts site, Prospect Heights represents more than new housing. It reflects a shared commitment to preserving the legacy of East Austin while creating pathways for families to build long-term stability through affordable homeownership.
A Celebration of New Beginnings
The Welcome Home event brought together future homeowners, community leaders, Austin Habitat for Humanity staff, Austin Housing Authority representatives, volunteers, and supporters to celebrate this important achievement. Families had the opportunity to walk through their new homes, connect with neighbors, and mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
For many of the homeowners, the event represented years of hard work, determination, and partnership.
“These homes represent more than new construction. They represent stability, opportunity, and a foundation for generational success,” said Michele Anderson, CEO of Austin Habitat for Humanity. “Prospect Heights shows what is possible when public and nonprofit partners come together with a shared vision.”
The Austin Housing Authority shares that vision and remains committed to expanding affordable housing opportunities that empower families across Austin.
“Prospect Heights represents a bold and intentional step forward for the Austin Housing Authority as we expand what opportunity can look like for the families we serve,” said Michael Gerber, CEO of the Austin Housing Authority. “We are proud to have partnered with Austin Habitat for Humanity to help turn that vision into a reality for 12 families.”
Honoring History While Building the Future
Rosewood Courts has served Austin families since 1939 and remains one of the city’s most historically significant public housing communities. Prospect Heights continues that legacy by creating affordable homeownership opportunities in a neighborhood many families have called home for generations.
The development reflects a thoughtful balance between honoring community roots and investing in the future of East Austin. Through strong public and nonprofit partnerships, Prospect Heights demonstrates how collaborative efforts can create lasting impact for residents and neighborhoods alike.
Designed for Sustainability and Long-Term Affordability
The new townhome-style residences were built with sustainability and efficiency in mind and are expected to achieve LEED Silver certification. Features include:
- Energy-efficient building materials
- Natural light optimization
- Rainwater collection systems
- Long-term cost-saving design features
These elements help support environmental responsibility while also reducing long-term housing costs for homeowners.
Expanding Opportunity Through Partnership
The partnership between Austin Habitat for Humanity and the Austin Housing Authority reflects a shared mission: creating stronger communities by expanding access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.
As families move into their new homes at Prospect Heights, the impact of this collaboration will continue for generations to come.
Looking Ahead
The Welcome Home event was more than a celebration — it was a reminder of what is possible when organizations, community members, and families work together toward a common goal.
The Austin Housing Authority remains committed to creating innovative housing solutions and expanding opportunities for Austin residents to thrive.
